On Tai Estate won the Grand Award and Special Citation on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals under the New Buildings Category (Completed Projects – Residential Building) in Green Building Award 2021.
Anderson Road Quarry was a major resource for the construction industry in Hong Kong since the 1950s. The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) turned part of this disused quarry at the urban fringe, linking with nearby communities and future new Anderson Road Quarry Development Area, into On Tai Estate, a green oasis and homes for over 21,500 people. The Estate comprises 9 domestic blocks with 7,209 rental flats, with retail and social welfare facilities provided in the amenity podium to cater for the needs of residents.
HA procured the design and construction of the Estate by a refined Integrated Procurement Approach which explored sustainable and innovative ideas throughout the development cycle, and various sustainability features were implemented such as maintenance free zero irrigation system and light-tube installations. The Rock Garden and Geo-heritage Exhibition Areas embracing the site’s history with upcycled art works have further connected the communities.
