Synopsis
The rise of sub-divided housing in Hong Kong in the decade is explained by rising housing demand at the lower end of the distribution. Why has demand increased? Why has the supply response been so sluggish? Is this a failure of the market or government? Can it be solved and how?What will rent control of sub-divided housing achieve?These questions will be discussed in the presentation.

Professor WONG is Professor of Economics and Philip Wong Kennedy Wong Professor in Political Economy. He is also Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hong Kong.
He is active in advancing research on economic policy studies in Hong Kong and China through his work as founding Director of the Hong Kong Centre for Economic Research since 1987. He used to write a monthly political economy column for the Hong Kong Economic Journal and South China Morning Post.
